The fields are set for the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships with post positions drawn and morning line odds announced for the 14 races over two days at Del Mar on Nov. 5-6.
The Brad Cox trained Knicks Go was installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). His stablemate Essential Quality is the second choice at 3-1. Letruska is the 8-5 morning line favorite for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1).
Eight of the 14 races drew fields of 12 or more. There are two short fields with just six going in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).
Seven of the morning line favorites are less than 2-1—Echo Zulu (4-5 in Juvenile fillies), Jack Christopher (9-5 in Juvenile), Gamine (3-5 in the Filly & Mare Sprint), Life Is Good (4-5 in Dirt Mile), Jackie’s Warrior (6-5 in the Sprint), Letruska (8-5 in the Distaff) and Tarnawa (9-5 in the Turf).

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint
The Breeders’ Cup kicks off on Friday with a dozen going in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint (G2). Trainer Wesley Ward looks for his third consecutive victory in the race when he saddled the 5-2 morning line favorite Averly Jane and 4-1 co-second choice Twilight Gleaming. There are five Euro invaders in the race led by Armor (6-1), the Richard Hannon trainee a close up third in the Middle Park Stakes (G1) at Newmarket in his last start.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies
A compact field of just six will line up I the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). The Steve Asmussen trained Echo Zulu is the 4-5 morning line favorite. She is perfect I her three career starts, winning the Frizette (G1) at Belmont Park in her last outing. She picks up a new rider in Joel Rosario. Pocahontas (G3) winner Hidden Connection and Alcibiades (G1) winner Juju’s Map are the co-second choices at 5-2.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
14 were entered in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) with 12 to start. The U.S. has an 11-2 edge over Euro invaders in this race and Pizza Bianca is the lukewarm 5-1 morning line favorite. The filly was the runner up in the Natalma (G1) at Woodbine in her last outing. Her trainer Christophe Clement is seeking his first Breeders’ Cup win, coming into this year’s event with a career mark of 0 for 40. Euro invaders Malavath (8-1) and Mise En Scene (6-1) are the top contenders making the trip across the pond.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
The Chad Brown trained Jack Christopher drew the one post and was installed as the 9-5 morning line favorite for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). The colt won the Champagne (G1) at Belmont Park in his last start. The Bob Baffert trained Cornice (5-2), winner of the American Pharoah (G1) drew the 12 post.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf
A wide open group of 14 was entered in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). The Hugo Palmer trained Dubawi Legend was installed as the 4-1 morning line favorite but drew the 14 post. He was second in the Dewhurst Stakes (G1) in his last start. The second choice on the morning line is the Charlie Appleby trained Modern Games at 5-1. The colt drew the rail and won the Somerville Stakes (G3) at Newmarket in his last start. The Euros hold a 9-4 edge in this race.
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
Gamine figures to be the shortest price of the day when she looks to repeat in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). She paid $4.20 last year and is the 3-5 morning one favorite, only having to take on five foes this year. Her main foe is the speedy Bella Sophia who is the 5-2 second choice and will break just to the outside of the favorite. The Rudy Rodriquez trainee won the Gallant Bloom Handicap (G2) in her last start.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint
A dozen go in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) which will be contested at five furlongs this year. Golden Pal, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf last year is the 7-2 morning line favorite for trainer Wesley Ward. The defending champion Glass Slippers drew the rail and is 6-1 on the morning line. The mare pulled off the upset last year at 10-1 in her U.S. debut. She is 0 for 3 this year.
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile
The Bob Baffert trained Life Is Good is the 4-5 morning line favorite for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1). The cot has won three of his four starts this year, taking the Kelso handicap (G2) at Belmont Park in his last outing. The Steve Asmussen trained Silver State is the second choice at 7-2 and drew the rail.
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf
Defending champion Audarya drew the 12 post for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1). The James Fanshawe trainee pulled off the upset last year paying $37.60. She is the 5-1 fourth choice this year. The 7-2 morning line favorite is War Like Goddess for the Bill Mott barn. The filly has won four of her five starts this year, winning the Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) at Saratoga in her last start. The Aiden O’Brien trained Love and the Japan based Loves Only You are both 4-1.
Breeders’ Cup Sprint
Nine go to the post in this year’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint led by 4-5 morning line favorite Jackie’s Warrior. The colt has won three in a row, winning the Gallant Bob (G2) at Parx Racing in his final prep. Dr. Schivel won the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1) and is the 4-1 second choice on the morning line.
Breeders’ Cup Mile
The Charles Appleby trained Space Blues is the 3-1 morning line favorite for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). The five-year-old has won 10 of his 18 career starts and comes to the U.S. off a victory in the Prix de la Foret (G1) at Longchamp. The Peter Miller trained Mo Forza, winner of the City of Hope Mile (G2) at Santa Anita is the second choice at 5-1.
Breeders’ Cup Distaff
Letruska is looking to keep her hopes for Horse of the Year alive by winning the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and is the 8-5 morning line favorite. She has won six of her seven starts in 2021 including four Grade 1 wins. The Todd Pletcher trained Malathaat, winner of the Alabama (G1) and Shedaresthedevil, who won the Locust Grove (G3) and Clement Hirsch (G1) in her last two starts are co-second choices at 4-1.
Breeders’ Cup Turf
Defending champ Tarnawa is the 9-6 morning line favorite for the $4 million Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1). She paid $11.40 last year. She comes into this year’s race in very sharp form off runner up finishes in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) and the Prix de l’Arc de triomphe (G1). The best of the home team is the Chad Brown trained Domestic Spending (4-1), winner of six of eight career starts including three Garde 1 victories. He was second in the Mr. D. (G1) at Arlington Park in his last start, beaten a neck by Two Emmys.
Breeders’ Cup Classic
Trainer Brad Cox has the two favorite for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). Knicks Go was installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner has won his last three starts, taking the Lukas Classic (G3) at Churchill Downs in his last outing. His stablemate Essential Quality (3-1) takes on older for the first time. His three-year-old campaign has included wins in the Belmont Stakes (G1) and Travers (G1). He won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) last year at Keeneland.
