The Mick Ruis trained Bolt d’Oro, who was placed first via a controversial disqualification of McKinzie in the San Felipe (G2) at Santa Anita has dropped from 9-2 to 5-2 in the latest Kentucky Derby future odds at US Racing.
The colt was making his first start since being the beaten favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) where he was third. McKinzie and Bolt d’Oro were separated by just a head at the wire after a spirited stretch duel on Saturday.
With his 50 points earned in the San Felipe, Bolt d’Oro sits atop the Road to the Kentucky Derby points standings with 64.
McKinzie has dropped from 6-1 to 9-2 in Derby future odds at USRacing. The Bob Baffert trainee was the beneficiary of a steward’s decision last December in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) where he was placed first. He won the Sham (G3) in January in his three-year-old debut.
The two could meet up again in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 7, but Baffert may end up sending McKinzie to Oaklawn Park for the Arkansas Derby (G1) for his final Kentucky Derby prep.
Quip won the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and saw his early Derby odds at USRacing drop from 33-1 to 15-1.
Enticed was the winner of the Gotham (G3) at Aqueduct and his early Kentucky Derby wagering odds at USRacing has dropped from 18-1 to 12-1.
Another big mover over the weekend was the Baffert trained Justify, who is now the co-second choice in early Derby betting at USRacing at 9-2. The colt broke his maiden in his debut with a 104 Beyer and popped a 101 Beyer on Sunday beating first level allowance foes by 6 ½ lengths.
The colt will nee da big effort in his next start, which likely will come in the Santa Anita Derby as he has no Derby points.
There are two Road to the Kentucky Derby points races coming up on Saturday—the $900,000 Rebel (G2) at Oaklawn Park and the $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway Park.
