The $1 million Woodbine Mile (G1) on Sunday drew a solid field of nine runners, with the winner of the race earning an automatic starting berth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 3.
The Woodbine Mile along with Saturday’s $250,000 Natalma (G2) and $250,000 Summer (G2) are part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” series.
The Charles Lopresti trained Wise Dan was installed as the 6-5 morning line favorite in the Woodbine Mile.
The gelding is coming off a victory in the Fourstardave Handicap (G2) at Saratoga over yielding footing on Aug. 11, his second win in three career trips over turf.
His lone loss this year was a neck loss to Ron the Greek in the Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) on dirt at Churchill Downs on June 16.
The gelding’s first start of 2012 produced a career top speed fig winning the Ben Ali (G2) over polytrack at Keeneland in April, his fifth win in seven trips over synthetic surfaces.
Three overseas invaders spice up the field led by Cityscape (5-2), who is winless in three starts since winning the Dubai Duty Free (G1) back in March at Meydan.
The other two Euros in the field are Dance And Dance (12-1) and Woethadd (8-1).
The Woodbine Mile is the tenth race with a post time of 5:42 ET. Sunday’s menu features a strong betting card that includes the $300,000 Canadian (G2), $150,000 Ontario (G3), and the $500,000 Northern Dancer (G1).
