Triple Crown winner American Pharoah remains the betting favorite for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), currently at early wagering odds of +250 at BetOnline.
Tonalist won the last Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” race for the Classic, taking down Saturday’s Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park and is now at +700 for the Classic, good for fourth choice in the early wagering.
The Christophe Clement trainee won last year’s Jockey Club Gold Cup and then checked in fifth in last year’s running of the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Honor Code made his final prep for the Classic in Saturday’s Kelso Handicap (G2) and made a belated run to finish third behind gate to wire winner Appealing Tale. The Shug McGaughey trainee won the Whitney (G1) and Met Mile (G1) in his two previous starts.
The four-year-old was the third choice in early Classic betting at BetOnline at +450 last week, but after Saturday, his price has now drifted up to +850.
The brilliant mare Beholder has gone from +400 to +350 after she won the Zenyatta (G1) at Santa Anita on Sept. 26 in her final prep for the Breeders’ Cup.
The Todd Pletcher trained Liam’s Map, who lost the Whitney by a neck and came back to win the Woodward (G1) in his last outing on Sept. 5 is the third choice in early Classic wagering at +600.
Smooth Roller has taken some action since winning the Awesome Again (G1) at Santa Anita on Sept. 26. The gelding earned a 111 Beyer Speed Figure for his win, his first start in a graded stakes race. Trained by Victor Garcia, the gelding is currently at +1200 in early Classic betting.
Wicked Strong put in a good effort in a runner up finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, but his price has only gone down from +4000 to +3500. The colt has not won in seven starts this year, but has landed in the money in four of his outings.
Pennsylvania Derby (G2) winner Frosted and Travers (G1) winner Keen Ice are both listed at +1400 in early Classic betting at BetOnline.
