The undefeated Nyquist remains the early wagering favorite for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby, now less than two weeks away, but the gap is narrowing in the latest Kentucky Derby betting odds.
In the most recent odds released by Mybookie.ag, Nyquist stands at +250, but Exaggerator has cut into the margin, now down to +300.
Nyquist is perfect in seven career starts, and after giving up the role as the betting favorite earlier this spring to Mohaymen, became the betting favorite again after winning the Florida Derby (G1) on April 2 while Mohaymen weakened to finish fourth. Mohaymen has drifted up to +650.
Exaggerator won the Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 9, and has dropped from +3500 down to the second choice at +300 in Kentucky Derby betting at Mybookie.ag.
Trained by Keith Desormeaux, Exaggerator earned a 103 Beyer Speed Figure for his Santa Anita victory, the highest number of any Road to the Kentucky Derby points race this year.
There were only two other triple digit Beyers earned in points races this year, Destin in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and Danzing in the San Felipe (G2) aching earning a 100 Beyer. Nyquist earned a 101 Beyer for his win in the seven-furlong San Vicente (G2) victory, which was not a points race.
Exaggerator earned his 103 Beyer over a sloppy surface at Santa Anita. His previous best Beyer was his 96 which he earned in his third place finish in the San Felipe behind Danzing Candy and Mor Spirit.
Both California Chrome in 2014 and I’ll Have Another in 2012 used the Santa Anita Derby as their final prep race for the first Saturday of May. Last year’s Santa Anita Derby winner Dortmund ran third in the Run for the Roses.
Mohaymen spent most of the year as the betting favorite for the Kentucky Debry, but his disappointing effort in the Florida Derby sent his price up. While he is at +650 at Mybookie.ag, his current Derby betting odds at BetOnline.ag are at +1100.
Gun Runner is the fourth choice in early Kentucky Debry betting at Mybookie.ag at +750. The colt won the Louisiana Derby (G2) on March 26 and will attempt to win the Kentucky Derby off a six week break.
Lani, winner of the UAE Derby (G2) is also coming in off a six week break. The colt’s current odds at Mybookie.ag stand at +2300.
Destin has not raced since his Tampa Bay Derby victory on March 12, meaning he comes to Louisville off an eight week break for trainer Todd Pletcher, who won the 2010 Kentucky Derby with Super Saver.
Super Saver ran third in the Tampa Bay Derby but then came back and ran second in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
