Jackie’s Warrior will head off to Lexington as the short priced favorite for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) after remaining perfect last Saturday in his fourth career start.
The Steve Asmussen trainee took the field gate to wire on Saturday to win the $250,000 Champagne (G1) at Belmont Park going a one turn mile, drawing off to win by 5 ½ lengths and earning a career top Beyer Speed Figure of 100.
The colt is now the +150 early betting favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at BUSR in the latest odds. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be held at Keeneland on Nov. 6-7.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner last year was Storm the Court, who returned $93.80. We have seen other recent upsets including New Year’s Day at $23.00 in 2013, Texas Red in 2014 at $29.80 and Good Magic paying $25.00 in 2017.
The son of Maclean’s Music is now perfect in four career starts and passed his first test going a mile, and now will go two turns for the first time at Keeneland, the Juvenile contested at 1 1/16 miles.
“He had an easy half-mile and I’m surprised he came home that quick. He’s very impressive,” said Asmussen’s assistant Toby Sheets. “He’s a class act and does everything correct. The one-turn mile certainly didn’t seem to bother him.”

The colt broke his maiden at Churchill Downs going five furlongs in his debut. He then won the Saratoga Special (G2) going six furlongs and then the Hopeful (G1) at seven furlongs.
Asmussen has sent out eight runners in the Juvenile, the best finish coming with Pyro, who ran second in 2007. Last year the trainer saddled Shoplifted, who finished seventh.
The Brad Cox trained Essential Quality won the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland going the Juvenile distance in his last outing on Oct. 3. The colt broke his maiden in his debut at Churchill Downs on Sept. 5.
BUSR does not have the talented colt listed today, but Bovada has him as the second choice at +450.
Get Her Number is listed at +600 at Bovada. The colt won the American Pharoah (G1) at Santa Anita on Sept. 26, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 84 The colt broke his maiden in his debut on turf and then ran fourth in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes on Sept. 7.
Sittin On Go is currently at +1000 at BUSR and Bovada. The Dale Romans trainee stamped his ticket to the Juvenile by winning the Iroquois (G3) at Churchill Downs on Sept. 5.
