California Chrome took the early betting action on Friday, as the Kentucky Derby winner was bet down to odds of 1-2 in advanced wagering for the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico.
A winner of five straight, the Art Sherman trainee was installed as the 3-5 morning line favorite and is expected to go off at odds between 2-5 and 3-5 for the second jewel of the Triple Crown.
Social Inclusion, who is 5-1 on the morning line drifted up to 8-1 in early betting, a point lower than Bayern, who is currently at 9-1.
Two runners that took some early action were Kid Cruz and Ria Antonia. Kid Cruz, the winner of the Federico Tesio in his last start is at 10-1, down from his 20-1 morning line.
The filly Ria Antonia, who was sixth in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) in her last start has been bet down form her 30-1 morning line to 14. That is quite a surprise considering her poor effort against the fillies in the Oaks as she finished 15 ¾ lengths behind the winner Untapable.
The 13-race card on Preakness day gets underway at 10:45am (ET). Post time for the Preakness is 6:128pm (ET). There is seven stakes on the card and a mandatory payout in the jackpot Pick 5 , which has a carryover of $173,323. The wager has a 18% takeout.
The stakes action will be televised live on NBC Sports Network starting at 1:00pm (ET) with NBC covering the Preakness starting at 4:00pm (ET).
