The 2021 edition of Royal Ascot has started, and the opening day saw a number of impressive performances. It has also proven to be another popular betting event, with fans getting involved with the different offers listed at tvg horse betting.
This is set to continue across the week, as excitement builds for races such as the Gold Cup. Bookmakers are also pushing more bonuses and promotions, so it gives punters a real chance of picking up some fantastic offers across the week.
Day one proved to be one of great entertainment and there is no doubting there were a number of impressive performances to take away. The first horse to mention is Palace Pier, who went off an incredible 2/7 favourite on the off, as one of the shortest priced horses in recent times at the Royal meeting. Despite not showing his complete best, he was still head and shoulders above the rest.
The race was run slowly and turned into a sprint for him, with Palace Pier always travelling ominously well and when asked he put the race to bed and then did not do a tap in front. Something his trainer commented on after the race, but connections were happy with the performance, and it got them and favourite backers off to a winning start in the opening race.

The other horse to mention has to Poetic Flare, who could now have set up a head-to-head with the previously mentioned Palace Pier in the near future. He went into the race having had an incredible season to date, that included a victory in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at the start of the season. He has since run out an unlucky second in the Irish 2000 Guineas, so some felt he has already had a tough season and would struggle at Ascot. That proved to be far from the case, as he travelled ominously well and was the last off the bridle and when asked he lengthen in seconds in incredible fashion. It resulted in a 4 ¼ length victory and there is no doubting he is a horse to follow moving forward.
Incredible horse! Poetic Flare absolutely bolts up in the St James’s Palace Stakes for Kevin Manning and Jim Bolger! @Ascot#RoyalAscot pic.twitter.com/T4QOgKj1pY
