She has been perfect so far, eight starts on turf and eight wins, and Catch a Glimpse will be at it again on Sunday at Saratoga, the 8-5 morning line favorite for the $300,000 Lake Placid (G2) at 1 1/8 miles on the inner turf.
The Mark Casse trainee debuted in the slop at the Spa last summer in a race taken off the turf and faded to finish fifth, beaten 12 ½ lengths.
She then shipped to Woodbine where she beat allowance foes to break her maiden in her turf debut going seven furlongs. She then reeled off seven straight graded stakes wins on the lawn, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) last fall and picking up her second Grade 1 win taking the Belmont Oaks Invitational in her last outing.
In addition, she beat the boys, taking the field gate to wire to win the Penn Mile (G3) in June.
Her 8-5 morning line will probably be closer to even money or less by post time, so I am going to take a stab we can beat her on Sunday.
Let’s head out to the Spa for Sunday’s featured race of the day:
Saratoga Race 8 The Lake Placid G2 (Post time 5:02 ET)
#6 My Impression 8-1
#2 Catch a Glimpse 8-5
#1 Time and Motion 3-1
#7 Diamond Fields 6-1
Analysis: My Impression came up short two back behind a couple of these she faces again when fifth in the Memories of Silver, then came back with a sharp win in the Christiana at Delaware Park last out. The effort was flattered when the runner up Involuntary came back to win the Drumtop at Suffolk Downs in her next outing on Aug. 6.
The Shug filly appears to be getting really good and she appears to have the best shot of beating the chalk in here. She has plenty of pedigree to handle her first trip at nine furlongs. by Sky Mesa out of a Broad Brush mare.
Catch a Glimpse is going to be very tough here and is perfect in eight career starts on turf. She was able to set moderate early fractions last out and won the Belmont Oaks (G1) by a half-length over Time and Motion.
Two back she got an easy lead and beat the boys in the Penn Mile (G3). She has shown she does not need the lead. She gives up four pounds to our top pick and the 8-5 seems fair enough but she likely is going to be sent off closer to even money or less.
Time and Motion made a good late rally to come up just a half-length shy of catching Catch a Glimpse in a solid effort, earning a career top speed fig in the effort. She needs someone in here to go with the chalk and it does not look as if it is going to happen.
