The month of June is winding down, and this Sunday will be the last of the week. However, races keep coming strong, and the excitement does not end with the month. So for the last weekend of the month, the entertainment will be alive in Cartmel, with a seven-race card coming our way.

Cartmel will have hurdles, steeple chase races, and a good number of Paddy Power sign up offers. The action starts just after midday and the weather is expected to be dry but cloudy. The rails are still to be announced but there will some areas with standing water on the track.

We get going at 1:40 PM with the BOWNESS MARES’ NOVICES’ HURDLE RACE, a Class 4 GBB race. It will be the smallest pot of the day at 5,800 GBP. It will not be the only Class 4 race of the day, but it stands out as one of the longest at two miles, a furlong, and forty-six yards. Seven mares will be on the grid, the youngest being four years old and the oldest at nine.

Following up the kick-off race will be the OAKMERE HOMES HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, with the horses riding the same distance as the first of the day. This will be a Class 2 outing, another GBB race for horses four years old and above but with a much bigger purse than the first. Nine horse, including a mare and eight geldings, will be gunning for the finish line and a prize of 18,500 GBP.

Sedbergh Longest Race of Day

The SEDBERGH HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE will round out the hour with the longest distance of the day. The second Class 4 race of the day, the horses will be rated 0-120 and five years old and above. This will be the longest run of the day at three miles, a furlong, one hundred and seven yards. Again, nine horses will go for 8,000 GBP and close the early afternoon.

Starting out the 3 PM hour will be the FLOOKBURGH HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE, the top patty of a Class 4 sandwich. The horses will be five years old and above and rated 0-110. Another nine horses on the grid for this one, will go for 8,000 GBP, taking on a distance of two miles, a furlong, and sixty-one yards.

The second run of the 3 PM hour will be the OAKMERE HOMES HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE, a Class 2 run and the last GBB race of the day. The distance to cover will be two miles, five furlongs, and thirty-four yards. The race will be for horses five years old and above and will be the biggest pot of the day at 22,500 GBP. The last two races of the day will take either half of the 4 PM hour, both of them hurdle races for four-year-olds, and purses of 7,200 GBP.
