Triple Crown winner American Pharoah has been the wagering favorite for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) for months and not even a loss in the Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in his last start has horseplayers wavering on his chances.
Bovada has the Bob Baffert trainee listed at 6-4 in early Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) wagering with less than a week to go before the colt’s final race of his career. He will be heading to the breeding shed after Saturday’s race.
The colt has remained the solid wagering choice despite his loss in the Travers, which was his first defeat since his debut last August at Del Mar over polytrack. He had won eight in a row including a career best Beyer Speed Figure winning the Haskell Invitational (G1) in his first start after winning the Triple Crown.
Beholder remains the second choice in early Classic wagering and appears to be back on track after spiking a fever on Tuesday after shipping in from California. The mare is the 7-2 second choice at Bovada.
She has won six races in a row including defeating makes in the Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar in August. Her final prep was an easy win in the Zenyatta (G1) at Santa Anita on Sept. 26. She has won 15 of her 20 career starts but has not raced over the Keeneland main track.
Tonalist’s price has drifted down to 6-1, making him the third choice in early Classic wagering at Bovada. The 2014 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner was fifth in last year’s Classic and comes into the race off a win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park.
Bovada is offering advance wagering on all of the Breeders’ Cup races. One of the heaviest favorites in Golden Horn at 8-15 for the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).
Trained by John Gosden, who has won four Breeders’ Cup races with overseas shippers, has won seven of his eight career starts including four Group 1 races.
The European invader Esoterique is the 7-2 early betting favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). Trained by Andrew Fabre, the five-year-old mare has won six of her 16 career starts including back-to-back Group 1 races.
Beholder is listed as the 6-4 betting favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Bovada, but if all goes but she will be pointed toward a date with the boys in the Classic.
That will leave Wedding Toast as the wagering choice, currently at 3-1 at Bovada. The Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has won three in a row, taking the Beldame Invitational (G1) at Belmont Park in her last start.
For early wagering on all of the Breeders’ Cup races go to Bovada.
