Breeders’ Cup Distaff Early Betting Odds

The Brad Cox trained Monomoy Girl is the favorite in Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) early betting odds, but the question remains who she will face and how low the price will go.

Monomoy Girl won the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, and she was on the sidelines until beating optional claimers at Churchill Downs in her comeback race on May 16. She then shipped to New York to win the Ruffian (G2) at Belmont Park and took the La Troienne (G1) at Churchill Downs on Sept. 4 in her last outing.

She is back and does not appear to have lost a step in her absence. The mare has now won 12 of her 14 career starts and was disqualified from another victory when crossing the wire first in the 2018 Cotillion (G1) but placed second for interference.

The mare is the current early betting favorite for the Distaff at +160 at BUSR, but that price could shrink in the coming weeks.

Swiss Skydiver is the second choice at +250. The Preakness Stakes (G1) winner could end up taking on the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). She is currently at +600 at BUSR for the Classic and at +800 at Bovada.

Gamine is listed as the third choice in the Distaff at +500 but her trainer Bob Baffert has said she is more likely for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).

Shedaresthedevil is the fourth choice at +600 but after a disappointing third in the Spinster (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 4 there are questions if trainer Brad Cox will send her to the Distaff.

That could mean Harvest Moon is the second choice in the betting and Monomoy Girl will drop much lower than her current price.

La Troienne Replay

The Simon Callaghan trained Harvest Moon has won four of her five career starts. She stamped her ticket to the Distaff with a sharp win in the Zenyatta (G2) at Santa Anita on Sept. 27.

Ollies Candy is currently at +1200 for trainer John Sadler. The mare has lost seven in a row but has been in the mix in a few tough spots. She suffered a head loss in the Apple Blossom (G1) at Oaklawn Park and ran second in her last two starts in the Clement Hirsch (G1) and Spinster (G1).

Dunbar Road is currently listed at +1600. She ran third in the Beldame Invitational (G2) which was her first go off nearly a three-month break. She was fifth in last year’s Distaff at 7-1.
