Breeders’ Cup Betting Odds Update, Wagering Menu

The fields for the Breeders’ Cup are coming into focus, with nearly 200 horses being pointed toward the two-day championship event at Santa Anita on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

The undefeated Shared Belief is the 7-5 early betting favorite for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) in betting odds released this week by Bovada. The Jerry Hollendorfer trainee is currently 7-5.

The top five betting choices for the Classic are all three-year-olds. After Shared Belief are Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Tonalist (11-2), Pennsylvania Derby (G2) winner Bayern (13-2), Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness victor California Chrome (7-1) and Pacific Classic (G1) runner up Toast of New York (12-1).

While reigning two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan, winner of the last two editions of the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) and last year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Beholder are on the sidelines, there are five other Breeders’ Cup winners competing this year.

Goldencents (Dirt Mile), Dank (Filly & Mare Turf), Secret Circle (Xpressbet Sprint), and Magician (Longines Turf) are looking for repeats this year while Ria Antonia, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly winner will look to win the Distaff this year.
