With just days before the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby (G1), USRacing has released the latest Kentucky Derby betting props, giving horseplayers some interesting wagering options including margin of victory and odds on whether Secretariat’s time will be broken.
If you think we will see a Triple Crown winner, you can back your opinion and get paid off at 11-2 if correct.
If you suspect a close finish in the race, the current odds of the margin of victory being a head or a neck is listed at 8-1. A correct prediction of a nose separating the top pair at the wire is currently listed at odds of 10-1.
Secretariat’s time for his Derby victory was 1:59 4/5 and if you think one of this year’s class can beat that time you will be rewarded with 10-1 odds.
Always Dreaming’s time last year was 2:03.59 and American Pharoah stopped the timer in 2:03.02. The only runner since Secretariat to run in a subpar 2 minutes was Monarchos at 1:59.97 in 2011.
The price for a runner to take the field gate to wire is 9-2. The likely pacesetter is Promises Fulfilled, who wired the field in the Fountain of Youth (G2) but faded to finish ninth in the Florida Derby (G1).
The Dale Romans trainee is listed at 55-2 in early Derby odds at USRacing. So, unless you think another runner will take the field gate to wire, the 9-2 price is a major underlay.
