The Mick Ruis trained Bolt d’Oro, who won’t make his three-year-old debut until March remains the early betting favorite for the Kentucky Derby (G1) which is now less than four months away.
The two-time Grade 1 winner is currently listed at odds of 4-1 in early Kentucky Derby wagering at USRacing.
The $630,000 purchase pulled a muscle and has missed some training and now his expected seasonal debut will come in the San Felipe (G2) at Santa Anita on March 10.
The colt won his first three career starts including the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and FrontRunner (G1) and was the beaten chalk in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) where he has to settle for third.
The Juvenile winner was Good Magic for the Chad Brown barn. The colt came into the race still a maiden. He was second in his debut in August at Saratoga and then ran second in the Champagne (G1) before pulling off the upset in the Juvenile, returning his backers $25.00.
The Brown trainee is currently the second choice in early Kentucky Derby betting at US Racing at 29-5. The colt returned to the morning work tab for the first time in 2018 on Sunday, working three furlongs in a fast 36.95 at Palm Meadows.
Mask has moved all the way up to third choice in early Derby betting at US Racing at 13-2. The son of Tapit won the Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park in his last outing on Jan. 6 for trainer Chad Brown.
Fourth choice in early betting is McKinzie at 7-1. The Bob Baffert trainee is perfect in three starts, winning the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) thanks to a disqualification of his stablemate Solomini and most recently won the Sham (G3) at Santa Anita on Jan. 6.
The next Road to the Kentucky Derby points races are coming up on Saturday, Feb. 3—the $250,000 Withers (G3) at Aqueduct, $350,000 Holy Bull (G2) at Gulfstream Park and the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis (G3) at Santa Anita.
