HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gunnevera worked an easy five furlongs Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park West in preparation for a scheduled start in the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park.

Margoth’s multiple graded-stakes winner was clocked in 1:02, the third fastest of 19 workouts recorded at the five-furlong distance. Jockey Edgard Zayas was aboard for the 3-year-old colt’s fourth workout since finishing in a dead-heat with Arrogate in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Del Mar Nov. 4.

“He went easy,” trainer Antonio Sano said. “We didn’t want him to do too much. The Pegasus is still six weeks away.”

Gunnevera secured a berth in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational in a deal made between his owner Salomon Del-Valle and stakeholder William Gallo of Gallo Stables and Bella Inizio Farm.

Santiamen, whom Sano saddled for a sharp 6 ¾-length debut victory Nov. 24 at Gulfstream Park West, recorded the fastest five-furlong workout with a 1:00 clocking. The 2-year-old son of Dialed In is entered in the third race on Thursday’s program.

Jorge Navarro-trained X Y Jet turned in the second fastest five-furlong breeze at Gulfstream Park West with a 1:01 clocking after breaking from the gate in preparation for a scheduled start in next Saturday’s $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3). The 6-year-old son of Kantharos, who captured the 2015 Mr. Prospector, hasn’t started in a race since November 2016.

Trained Dale Romans sent out a pair of highly regarded 2-year-olds for their first breezes at Gulfstream Park since arriving from Churchill Downs. Dak Attack, a candidate for the Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Jan. 6, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.69. Dak Attack has won both of his career starts, including a victory in the Ellis Park Juvenile. Tiz Mischief, the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) runner-up, breezed a half-mile in 47.42, the third fastest clocking of 97 recorded at the distance.
