Saturday’s $300,000 Mother Goose (G1) at Belmont Park is the next stop for the brilliant three-year-old filly Untapable, and the Steve Asmussen trainee will be the overwhelming favorite as she takes on five seemingly overmatched foes in the 1 1/16 mile race.
The filly was installed as the 1-5 morning line favorite and the NYRA announced there will be no show wagering on the race, which is unusual for a six-horse field. However, trainer Todd Pletcher said he may scratch Stopchargingmaria, who is the second choice on the morning line at 8-1 and wait for the Coaching Club of America Oaks (G1) on Sunday, July 20 at Saratoga.
Untapable will be making her first start since trouncing the field in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 2 by 4 ½ lengths. The race was her third consecutive victory and her fifth in seven career starts. She is perfect this year, winning the Rachel Alexandra (G3) by 9 ½ lengths in her three-year-old debut and then won the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) on March 29 by 7 ¾ lengths.
Stopchargingmaria is the only other stakes winner in the field. The filly won the Black Eyed Susan (G2) at Pimlico in her last outing. She won three of five starts as a juvenile including wins in the Tempted (G3) and Demoiselle (G2).
House Rules (12-1) has won just one of her seven career starts but did run a game second in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) where she was beaten just a neck. She was a non-threatening sixth in the Acorn (G1) on June 7 in her last start. Completing the field are longshots Princess Violet (15-1), America (20-1) and Aqua Regia (20-1).
The race is the fourth on the 10-race card with a post of 2:53 p.m. (ET).
There are two supporting stakes on Saturday’s card at Belmont Park. The $100,000 Manila drew eight along with one main-track-only entrant, while the $200,000 New York (G2) drew a field of six fillies and mares.
The Christophe Clement trained Green Mask appears the one to beat in the Manila, which is for three-year-olds going one mile on the turf. The colt is coming off a victory in the Paradise Creek going seven furlongs over the Belmont Park turf.
Tannery is the 9-5 morning line favorite for the New York, which will be contested at 1 ¼ miles on the inner turf. The Alan Goldberg trainee won the Ms. Liberty at Monmouth Park on May 26 off a six-month layoff. She won two of her seven starts last year including the E.P. Taylor (G1) at Woodbine.
My Best Plays Report for Saturday will include all of the stakes action from Belmont Park as well as from Santa Anita. There are four graded stakes on tap at Santa Anita including the $500,000 Gold Cup and the $300,000 Triple Bend (G1).
