Calder Race Course opened its doors on May 6, 1971, and has undergone various revocations since its conception. Calder is the home of the Florida Million and Summit of Speed, which produced the single largest betting day in Calder history in 2004, and a list of Breeders’ Cup winners such as Orientate and Cajun Beat. On June 4th, 2005, Eddie Castro won a record nine races at Calder.
Calder expanded its horizons to include a card room on site, which has moved to nearby Gulfstream Park. Calder also hosts horse sales like the Ocala Breeders’ Sales and the Fasig Tiptons Sales. A world-record $16 million was spent on a thoroughbred at Calder in 2006.
