Wagering for Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens on Friday and runs until Sunday, with six new additions to the 23 separate betting interests offered by Churchill Downs along with the 24th option which is “all others,” opening as the 3-1 morning line favorite.
Trainer Todd Pletcher has six runners listed while hall of fame trainer Bob Baffert has five among the 23 separate betting interests.
Co-favored among individual horses at 10-1 betting odds are Baffert’s Super Ninety Nine, who was an 11 ½-length winner of the Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn Park, and Pletcher’s undefeated Verrazano, who has won his two starts by a combined 24 lengths and makes his stakes debut on the March 9 Tampa Bay Derby (G2).
Next in line at 12-1 on the morning line are Robert B. Lewis (G3) winner Flashback, Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Orb, Holy Bull (G3) victor Itsmyluckyday and Withers (G3) winner Revolutionary.
The new additions to Pool 2 are Ive Struck a Nerve, Orb, Palace Malice, Shakin It Up, Titletown Five, and Treasury Bill.
The horses from Pool 1 that are now relegated to “all others” or are off the Derby Trail are Capo Bastone, Frac Daddy, He’s Had Enough, Mylute, Violence, and Will Take Charge.
The only race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby with points on the line this weekend is the Gotham (G2) at Aqueduct. Two runners from Pool 2 are entered: Vyjack (30-1) and Overanalyze (20-1). There were 13 horses entered in the Gotham.
