A field of nine juvenile fillies will go in Sunday’s $400,000 Frizette (G1) led by the Steve Asmussen trained Echo Zulu.

The race is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” race with the winner stamping a fee expenses paid entry into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Del Mar on Nov. 5.

Echo Zulu was installed as the 3-5 morning line favorite and is perfect tin two career starts. She broke her maiden in her debut and then won the Spinaway (G1) last out at Saratoga by four lengths going seven furlongs over a wet track. Ricardo Santana Jr. has the return call on the daughter of first crop sire Gun Runner.

Echo Zulu Wins Spinaway

Trainer Todd Pletcher sends out a potential upsetter in A Mo Reay (8-1) who came with a good late rally to finish third in her debut over the Saratoga main track going six furlongs. She caught a racing strip that was kind to speed that day. Jose Lezcano will get a leg up.

Pletcher has won the Frizette three times, the most recent victory coming with Dreaming of Julia in 2012.

Trainer Chad Brown sends out Gerrymander (8-1), who broke her maiden in her second career start at Saratoga at odds of 10-1.

“I’ve always thought a lot of her. She was bet first out, and I had to totally restart with her and then she showed us what we thought of her in that last race at Saratoga,” Brown said. “That’s what we thought very early on in the year with her and then she’s come back and trained well.”

Brown won the 2017 running of the Frizette with Separationofpowers.

Let’s head out to Belmont Park for Sunday’s featured race of the day:

Belmont Park

Belmont Park Race 9 The Frizette G1 (5:16 ET)

#2 A Mo Reay   8-1

#6 Echo Zulu   3-5

#8 Gerrymander   8-1

#3 Saucy Lady T    20-1

A Mo Reay

The Pletcher trainee comes into this race still a maiden but put in a promising debut going six furlongs on the main track at the Spa. She was away next to last and came with an eight wide move, coming down the outside of the track and kicked in late to come up just a half-length short in a third-place finisher. The winner Gerrymander who is in here got a perfect trip and got the jump on her. Our top pick will appreciate the extra ground here. The $400,000 Keeneland purchase is by Uncle Mo out of a stakes placed Pioneerof the Nile mare, her first foal to race, Pletcher, who has won this race three times is 24% winners moving runners from sprint to route.

Echo Zulu

This gal is going to be a light price off her good looking win at the Spa on Sept. 5 in the Spinaway (G1) at seven furlongs in her second career start. She took the field gate to wire and the racing strip, which as wet that day was kind to inside speed. She earned a solid number in her debut win two back where she drew off to win by 5 1/2 lengths. The third-place finisher Outfoxed came back to win a couple of Florida Stallion Series races at Gulfstream Park in her next two outings. She looks imposing and is bred to handle more ground, by Freshman sire Gun Runner out of the G2 stakes winner Letgomyecho ($136,200) who has dropped eight other winners including graded stakes winners J Boys Echo ($377,543) and Echo Town ($410,020). She looks imposing but is going to be a puny price

Gerrymander

She was hammered in her debut and had to settle for the runner up spot here back in June. She was overlooked at the Spa in her second career start and pulled off the upset at 10-1 with a game win. Her speed figs are coming up on the light side but looks capable of moving forward off her last effort for the Brown barn. She was a $375,000 Keeneland purchase, by Into Mischief out of a stakes placed Hard Spun mare that has dropped one other winner, stakes winner Lone Rock ($874,921).
