The biggest races in the world are seeing huge changes to potential prize pools as new events continue to raise the bar on what a winner may walk away with, as racing is returning around the world too and these big events are able to take place once again with punters able to bet on the biggest sites with some here being amongst the most favourite, it’s always interesting to keep an eye out for the biggest winners. But which horses have went on to become the highest earning racehorses, and what are some of their biggest accomplishments?
Arrogate
It’s not possible to mention a biggest earners list without this racehorse sitting at the top of the list with career earnings of £13,622,542. Whilst also topping out the list as the highest earning racehorse but is also an American record holder in other aspects too – with records that include winning three of the richest races in horse racing within the span of just a few months including the Breeders’ Cup Classic with a £2.24 million prize, the Pegasus World Cup with a £5.69million prize, and the Dubai World Cup with a prize of £4.88 million. Spending two years on track, Arrogate had a much shorter career than some others, but was able to string together some incredible performances in a short period of time, and may be a very tough record to beat until the prizes from the richest races increase in the same way they have been.
Winx
Following in a close second, the Australian trained horse may not have had as many rich race wins as the previous entry but has managed to rack up a very respectable pot at £12,629,301. Where Arrogate was able to shine during a short career, Winx was able to put up consistent performances over five years on track before her retirement in 2019. The biggest win came in 2018 at the Ladbrokes Cox Plate, taking home £1,763,005.78, so whilst certainly not similar to the richest races, is a respectable win that has helped develop the huge success that she was able to find during her career.
Gun Runner
Another US trained horse that would run alongside Arrogate at the height of the big wins, four years on track led to total career winnings of £12,238,136 with some big rich race wins in there too including the 2018 Pegasus World Cup and a Breeders’ Cup Classic win in 2017 too. Whilst the Pegasus world cup contributed the most towards the winning pot and some other Grade 1 wins too, the second highest earning race actually came from finishing second at the Dubai World Cup with a prize of £1.63 million, a race that Arrogate would actually go on to win.
Race prizes have been increasing over time however so it may not be long until these big names are unseated and young newcomers fill the space, but have certainly managed to place some impressive figures during their career, whether shorter or longer.
