Super Bowl LIV is just a few days away now, and the most watched sporting event in the world brings with it a ton of sports betting. Now that wagering on sports is legal in more and more of the United States, the amount of money put down on this game is just going to go up.
Estimates from the American Gaming Association have the dollar amount (legal and illegal) at about $6.8 billion in wagers. Those bets are not just made on the point spread and the over/under total; there are any number of prop bets that have popped up for your consideration.

Which team will score first in the game?
San Francisco 49ers -115 / Kansas City Chiefs -125
The Chiefs are favored here, but they did not score first in either of their two playoff games. Houston scored the first 24 points of the divisional round game before the Chiefs ran off five straight touchdown drives and outscored the Texans 51-7 the rest of the way. Tennessee scored the first ten points of the AFC Championship, leading 10-0 and 17-7 before the Chiefs came back. So while the Chiefs have a dominant offense, it does not get off to quick starts. I’m taking the 49ers on this prop.
Will the most points be scored in the first half (+120) or the second half and overtime (-175)?
This is a no-brainer – and to be fair, the moneylines demonstrate that. We have already talked about how the Chiefs start slowly on offense, but this is a common trend as offenses struggle at first against opposing defenses and then start to make adjustments. Consider last year’s Super Bowl, when the teams went into the fourth quarter tied 3-3, before the Patriots scored ten points in the fourth quarter to win, 13-3. Offenses break out in the later part of games, so take advantage of this trend, even though the value isn’t that great.
Which team will have the longest play from scrimmage?
San Francisco 49ers -110 / Kansas City Chiefs -130
The Chiefs are the favorite here, but when I think about a long play breaking in this game, I don’t necessarily see Tyreek Hill running a fly pattern or a deep slant and catching a bomb. I don’t think the San Francisco pass rush will allow Patrick Mahomes that much time in the pocket. The Chiefs will pick up plenty of yards, but I see them coming in chunks rather than in huge swaths. If a big play breaks, it will likely be one of the San Francisco running backs (probably Raheem Mostert) getting free for a long run. So I’d be more likely to bet on San Francisco getting the longer play.
