The Road to the Kentucky Derby is a long one and though it is not even Christmas, horses are jockeying (no pun intended) for position in the legendary race’s rankings. The early December Kentucky Derby 2020 Rankings have seen two horses drop places with Gouverneur Morris and Tiz the Law both falling spots in the top 15. Horsing race fans are gearing up for a big winter and spring at the racetracks and Ascot ante post betting gives punters the chance to wager on the horses they believe will win the top races.
Tiz the Law failed to win the Kentucky Jockey Club race on Saturday, November 30 at Churchill Downs. The loss set the horse back in the standings to 11th in the Kentucky Derby 2020 Rankings. Despite a third-place finish at the Kentucky Jockey Club event, Tiz the Law did not receive the benefit of the doubt from those in charge of ranking the horses.
Trained by Barclay Tagg, Tiz the Law has made three career starts with his first two ending in victories. Bumping Tiz the Law down the rankings for his third-place finish at the Kentucky Jockey Club can be seen as harsh. However, with just three starts under the horse’s belt, those in charge may feel Tiz the Law is unable to keep his previous momentum going.
According to OddsChecker, odds on Tiz the Law to win the Kentucky Derby 2020 currently sit at 20/1. Prior to the race at Churchill Downs to finish November, Tiz the Law was 16/1 to win the derby.
Gouverneur Morris also fell in the Kentucky Derby 2020 Rankings and sits one place better than Tiz the Law. Gouverneur Morris finished second at the Breeders’ Futurity race but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the top nine places of the rankings.
The Todd Pletcher-trained race horse hasn’t run since early October which came just a month after debuting at Saratoga. Gouverneur Morris’ win at Saratoga made him an early prospect for a potential win at the Kentucky Derby. Gouverneur Morris is 33/1 to win the Kentucky Derby as it stands.
While neither Tiz the Law nor Gouverneur Morris received the benefit of the doubt from Kentucky Derby 2020 Rankings voters, No. 1 horse Dennis’ Moment did. Dennis’ Moment failed to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile race in November. An early stumble resulted in Dennis’ Moment finishing eighth. The result came in his fourth start and followed on from back to back wins.
Dennis’ Moment is 14/1 to win the Kentucky Derby. The Dale Romans-trained horse is a strong contender to leave Churchill Downs the winner in May. However, the road to the Kentucky Derby is long and winding.
Romans has penciled in two Kentucky Derby prep races for Dennis’ Moment. The trainer has circle December 15 as Dennis’ Moment’s return to training. The horse will spend much of the winter at Gulfstream Park where he will feature in the Fountain of Youth (G2) and Florida Derby (G1).
