The pressure is on for Liverpool ahead of their testing match against Manchester City on the 10th of November. Fans and pundits alike are calling it the Premier League clash of the weekend and for good reason. The reigning champions will be going head to head with the runner ups in Anfield this Sunday.
Although Liverpool has had a fantastic start to the season, they haven’t played particularly well or dominated teams in the same way that they did last season. It took a 95th minute winner to beat Leicester, they drew with Manchester United and had to come from behind against a struggling Spurs. To beat Manchester City this Sunday, they really need to step their game up as the Blues have vowed to fight till the very end.
“We’ll fight until the very end, it’s my personal philosophy and a motto of this football club,” Sergio Aguero told the club’s official website. “We’ve made it abundantly clear last year, holding the lead during that gruelling home stretch. This season didn’t start off the way we wanted it to, and some of the results we’ve had weren’t the ones we set out to achieve”.
Manchester City remain six prominent points behind Liverpool which could ultimately make the difference at the end. Liverpool are also determined to dominate at Anfield this Sunday and do not want to experience a repeat of last season when they narrowly lost the Premier League title race to Manchester City. They’ll look to take all three points when the champions visit on Sunday, goalkeeper Alisson Becker has said.
Former Arsenal and City star David Seaman has other foresight. Seaman has predicted Manchester City will beat Liverpool on Sunday but, if Ederson fails to make the trip through injury, it will be a massive blow for Pep Guardiola. There will be big pressure on substitute goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, after failing to impress in the Champions League during the week, when he was sent off after replacing the injured Ederson.
Manchester City haven’t won at Anfield in 16 years, and face falling nine points behind Liverpool in the title race if they succumb to defeat. The Blues could drop as low as fourth in the table if they fail to beat Liverpool on Sunday. Although Guardiola has confirmed that Ederson won’t be performing on Sunday, some Red fans suspect the Catalan is playing mind games.
All in all, Liverpool seem very determined to dominate Sunday’s match and Trent Alexander Arnold reinforces this by stating, “there is a determination in this squad to get better and improve and achieve more.” He claims the Reds get their motivation from Jurgen Klopp, someone who motivates everyone that is around. “He is someone you want to play for, someone you feel as though you need to perform for”. Let’s hope Liverpool carry on their undefeated legacy this Premier League and finally avenge last year’s loss.
