Raging Bull Looks to Turn Tables in Woodbine Mile

The Chad Brown trained Raging Bull is looking to turn the tables in Saturday’s $1 million Woodbine Mile (G1) after running second in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) last out at Saratoga to the filly Get Stormy.

The pair will square off again at Woodbine, with Get Stormy installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite as she takes on 10 foes. Raging Bull is the second choice on the morning line at 3-1.

Brown, who seems to have won every graded stakes race on turf in the universe has not won the Woodbine Mile. In fact, he has shipped just one runner north of the border for the race, Bobby’s Kitten running third in 2014.

The colt reunites with jockey Joel Rosario, who has been on board for all five of his career wins.

Get Stormy is coming off a victory in the Fourstardave for trainer Mark Casse and did it off just a week break after winning the De La Rose, both victories coming at Saratoga. She has won over the Woodbine turf, winning the Ontario Cotillion (G3) last July.

The other filly in the race is the William Haggas trained Awseometank, who ran second in the Beverly D. (G1) at Arlington Park in her in her U.S. debut.

“We’ve had her from a yearling,” said Haggas. “She’s always been a very sound, very tough, very consistent filly. She upgraded her performances in Chicago. The plan is to leave her in America now. After she runs in Canada, she’ll go down to Keeneland to run. We’ll take it from there.”

The Woodbine Mile is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” race. The winner earns a fee expenses paid trip to Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1).

There are three supporting stakes on the Saturday card at Woodbine—the $300,000 Northern Dancer (G1), $250,000 Canadian (G2) and the $125,000 Bold Venture (G3).

The Chad Brown trainee made a good late rally form last to finish in the runner up spot in the Fourstardave ‘Cap (G1) last out at Saratoga going a mile, a head in front of Uni. The colt has earned back to back career top speed figs, running third two back in the Manhattan (G1) behind Bricks and Mortar, who came back to win the Arlington Million (G1) in his next outing on Aug. 10. The colt is 0 for 4 this year after winning 5 of 7 last year including the Hollywood Derby (G1) and Saranac (G3). The colt is going to get a solid pace to run at and he reunites with Rosario who was aboard for all five of his career wins.

Awesometank

This gal is one of two fillies in the field along with morning line favorite Got Stormy. She made her U.S. debut in the Beverly D. (G1) at Arlington Park where she ran well in a runner up finish going 1 3/16 miles. The Haggas trainee was as Group 3 type overseas but earned a solid figure in her U.S. debut and the cut back to a mile here should suit her. Euro shippers last won this race in back to back years in ’14 and ’15. Looks as if she is going to end up a decent price in this spot.

Got Stormy

She is trained by Mark Casse, who won this race in back to back years with World Approval (2017) and Tepin (2016). She came off a three month break to win the restricted De La Rose at Saratoga on Aug. 3 and was wheeled back a week late to take on the boys in the Fourstardave where she was an impressive winner by 2 ½ lengths over our top pick and earned a career top speed fig in the victory. She was getting six pounds from our top pick that day and they are both toting 123 today. She is a very talented filly at the top of her game right now, but her price is going to end up on the light side.
