In December of 2025 at Sha Tin, the Equine MediRecord team, based in Ireland, will roll out its platform so that every international runner at that year’s International Raceday is managed through it. Alongside this, a refreshed Equine MediRecord version will be provided to assist trainers and vets operating outside Hong Kong in meeting Hong Kong welfare rules for equines more easily, for example by lodging vaccination histories or recent treatment notes.

Backing the Group One showcases, the system will cover the Longines Hong Kong Mile, Longines Hong Kong Cup, Longines Hong Kong Vase and Longines Hong Kong Sprint. Through Equine MediRecord, a horse’s entire clinical record can be stored with strong security, which supports welfare outcomes and underpins anti‑doping controls; for instance, medication withdrawal times can be checked in one place. For entrants, trainers and veterinary staff, the same application supplies a mechanism to observe current animal‑welfare and anti‑doping obligations, with all required data captured in digital form. Using Equine MediRecord’s checks and algorithms, the integrity of submissions is validated and compliance for participating horses is confirmed before they compete, reinforcing welfare benchmarks and creating an audit trail.

Since launching only a few years ago, Equine MediRecord’s platform has gained wide international adoption, with clients and users including the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, the Arabian Racing Organisation, the British Horseracing Authority, Racing Victoria, the Pegasus World Cup, the Preakness Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, among others. In the year 2022, a several‑million‑dollar investment was made by Merits Holdings, bringing Equine MediRecord into its Business Infusions group, the world’s largest equine veterinary software group, exemplifying enterprise‑grade backing.

Equine MediRecord sells and supports a cloud‑based platform through which a horse’s complete veterinary history can be captured securely, a design that advances welfare while assisting crucial anti‑doping workflows. Built specifically for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the new module will automatically notify trainers around the globe about safety and integrity rules that apply, and it outlines which documents must be filed in the system for horses to be eligible to race in Hong Kong—for example, health certificates or treatment authorizations.

After entries have been saved in the system, modifications are not permitted, which provides transparency and confidence to every party; timestamps and user attribution serve as additional clarity. The Hong Kong Jockey Club remains at the forefront in adopting best‑practice welfare measures and anti‑doping frameworks. As scrutiny on the sport’s integrity intensifies, this Irish innovation is expected to be taken up by further leading racing organisations seeking to uphold the highest welfare and anti‑doping standards for horses under their care.
