The money keeps coming in on California Chrome, who led all Kentucky Derby hopefuls with 150 points and is the 2-1 betting favorite in Derby future betting at Bovada.
Dance With Fate, who won the Toyota Blue Grass (G1) on April 12 will head to Louisville on the first Saturday of May according to his trainer Peter Eurton, who stated shortly after his win at Keeneland that he could skip the Run for the Roses to keep the colt on polytrack and return to turf.
Off the Derby trail is Cairo Prince, who was an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby after his victory in the Holy Bull (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 25. The colt took two months off and was a disappointing fourth in the Florida Derby (G1) as the beaten favorite on March 2.
His connections announced that the colt has an injury to his left front ankle, which was discovered after a workout last Saturday. The colt will be sent to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. for further evaluation.
The colt’s defection opened the door for the Todd Pletcher trained Vinceremos, who is now up to 18th in the points standings. He ran second in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) but failed to fire in the Toyota Blue Grass where he checked in a badly beaten 14th.
Pletcher now has four horses in the top 20- Danza, Intense Holiday,We Miss Artie, and Vinceremos.
Ride On Curlin rallied for the runner up spot, and went from 23rd in the points standings all the way up to 11th by earning 40 points. The $2 exacta paid a hefty $561.40.
With Ring Weekend out of the Derby poicture Commanding Curve is now in the race. The Dallas Stewart trainee was third in the Louisiana Derby (G2) in his last outing. Sitting on the outside hoping to get in is Pablo Del Monte, who was third in the Toyota Blue Grass (G1) at Keeneland in his last start.
